Conserving historical and spiritual values
The Cathedral Museum is an important part of the Jakarta Cathedral, showcasing the church's historical significance and valuable collections related to the development of Catholic churches in Indonesia. Originally located on the second floor, it has now been moved next to the Cathedral’s main building. The museum was inaugurated by Cardinal Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo on November 14, 2018.
We were entrusted with designing the brand identity for the Cathedral Museum, ensuring it aligns with the overall identity of the Cathedral that we developed previously. With only two weeks to finalize the design for the inauguration, we faced the challenge of creating a design that could evolve throughout the ongoing renovation process. As the museum is still under construction, the design will be adjusted according to their budget as the renovations progress.
In line with our work on the Cathedral's identity, we complemented the Cathedral Museum's identity with various graphic elements inspired by the church's details, such as the stained glass and symbols found throughout the church. The different color also serves to differentiate the Cathedral from the Museum.

One of the main challenges of this project is adapting to the constraints of limited space, time, and budget. The logo for the Cathedral Museum features the same design we created earlier for the Cathedral—the neo-Gothic building itself. However, the Cathedral Museum logo distinguishes itself with an ochre color, symbolizing the museum’s vitality in conveying historical lessons over time.
Since the museum is still in a semi-constructed state, we designed the graphic information and signage system to fit within their budget and ensure ease of updating once the museum is fully completed. We collaborated with the museum management to prepare the information and images to be displayed. To address space limitations, we utilized the walls around the Museum to present historical information, including details about the development of Catholic churches in Indonesia and several valuable artifacts.
Despite the constraints of time, space, and budget, we completed all the temporary designs before the inauguration. We are proud of the final result and happy that everyone involved is satisfied with our work.
